Quadrino Schwartz NewsPartner Quadrino Speaks at Meeting of the NYS Chiropractic Association June 24, 2007
The New York County District of the New York State Chiropractic Association invited Mr. Quadrino to appear at its regular meeting to speak to the District's members regarding various issues of concern regarding insurance recovery and billing. The presentation began with an industry update regarding the efforts of health insurers and HMOs to seek refunds from Chiropractors and other health professionals for alleged "overpayments". These industry efforts are likely to be increasing in light of a change in the law effective January 1, 2007. New York's Legislature passed a bill, signed into law, that now allows these payors to seek refunds -- going back 2 years -- without having to establish "fraud". A spirited discussion took place regarding the billing practices and documentation protocols challenged by the payors and efforts that can be undertaken by the medical provider to minimize the number and amount of these refund claims. Mr. Quadrino also spent time with the members reviewing recent trends in the no-fault arena. Efforts by the automobile insurers to challenge the corporate structure of multi-specialty clinics continues, with significant potential affects upon their ability to recover and collect on their no-fault billings. A presentation was made regarding the efforts of Quadrino Schwartz to create economies of scale in pursuing health and no-fault recoveries from the payors by grouping large batches of claims with similar issues and commencing large scale litigation to collect on the unpaid claims of the health care providers. Mr. Quadrino concluded with a review of the status of the disability insurance industry and the trends concerning claim payments and denials for "own occupation" claims filed by chiropractors and other health professionals.
