In the wake of the Galleon hedge fund insider trading case, the use of wiretaps and the wearing of wires by cooperating witnesses is back in focus -- this time not regarding organized crime, but to capture Wall Street crimes.
Nathan Burney of Quadrino Schwartz was sought out by Forbes Magazine for commentary in a piece written about certain Wall Street firms looking for ways to scrub their offices for bugs or wires. Now, in addition to concerns about email, Burney said, these firms are turning their attention to the security of their phone systems.
Mr. Burney, a former Manhattan DA who used wiretap evidence extensively, teaches a course on the use of such evidence. He is now a member of the Criminal & White Collar Defense Group at Quadrino Schwartz.
