Quadrino Schwartz Attorney Burney Again the Go-To Guy For Bloomberg News

Bloomberg News turned to Nathan Burney for a second time about the use of wiretap evidence in the Galleon hedge fund insider trading case. Nathan was tapped as a source for Bloomberg regarding the many issues involved in the prosecution and defense of criminal cases that involve the introduction of wiretap evidence.

Nathan's experience in wiretapping is from his days as a Manhattan Assistant DA, where he ran a massive year-long wiretap that he used to take down a leader of the nation's largest organized crime family and a corrupt labor union.

The problems faced by prosecutors -- and thus the key points for defense attorneys -- were in focus during the interview. Nathan recounted the many issues and problems with wiretaps in terms of the technical problems with obtaining a warrant, the need for the prosecutor to follow strict procedures, and various reasons why the taped conversations could potentially be suppressed in court in a later criminal case based upon the tapes.

Nathan Burney is the the author of a lecture for lawyers titled “Hope for Hopeless Cases: Defending Wiretaps and Tape Recordings.” He is now a senior attorney in the Criminal & White Collar Defense Group at Quadrino Schwartz.
